Husband got fishing gear and a beach buggy pass, along with some silly stocking stuffers.  Bacon-flavored dental floss anyone???

My MIL made these cute cork trees, I am so doing this next year.  Lord knows we have enough corks!

We weren't supposed to exchange gifts this year.  He did a pretty good job surprising me (including the gift card, I saw the box come in the mail and thought it was flip-flops)!

Hutton Home 2013 {Christmas decor}

This post is photo-heavy.  I am still having to finish our dining room, adorn the mini boxwood wreaths in the living room and scatter some more Christmas cheer throughout the house.  Please stop back for updates and I will be sharing some amazing New Years Eve appetizers over the next couple of weeks!

I went outside of my comfort zone for our mantel this year.  I went for a more rustic theme, using organic elements; fresh greenery, fruit, antlers, driftwood, wrought iron and artwork by moi.  It's quite unique and I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

I will also be sharing our favorites from our Christmas Cocktail Station...

Planning Ahead {Christmas 2013}

I'm as guilty as all of the major retailers pushing Christmas early, but just as September and October went by like a flash, so will November.

We will be traveling toward the end of November; first to Disney and then to spend Thanksgiving with my family in St. Mary's, GA.  I'm so excited for our trip, but I know that time will get away from me.

I'd like to put a homespun, rustic spin on our holiday this year.

And, as always, Pinterest is providing the inspiration.

How organic and beautiful is this greenery and dried orange garland?

A snowman made of fish bowls, perhaps?

Greenery, cranberries and water in a mason jar with tealights.  A beautiful and aromatic centerpiece idea...

Get the kids involved foraging twigs for a rustic Christmas tree...

...as well as, twig stars.

My Uncle Ed (way back when) used to make folk art-ish Christmas trees out of large pine cones.  He would affix the cone to a round of primitive-looking wood and lightly dab the ends with white paint, sometimes adding a bit of cotton.  Not as "primary-colored" as the one above, but elegant and bucolic.  I miss him and I wish I had more of those trees...

I am hunting eBay and Craigs List for some accessories for my Christmas mantel.  Which is why I am starting early...Pinterest is not helping when it comes to some of the vintage items I am looking for.  When/if i score, I'll be sharing!

Hubster and I are on a strict budget this year and probably from here on out (!), it IS all about the kids, but it can be fun to dream! I think I did fabulous for him on our $20~ish budget and he will be pleased....and if he picked up on my hints, I too will be happy with mine. The above are my d~r~e~a~m gifts...some attainable and some off the charts.

~2010 Christmas Tree~

Our tree is a hodge podge of ornaments collected throughout the years. When I was about 20, I discovered Pier 1 Imports and started my bachelorette collection...all pinks, purples, turquoise and white glittered ornaments. As time went on and Bill and the kids came into my life, we just started collecting what moved us...terra cotta santas & silver stars from mexico, canoeing & fishing ornaments from the outer banks, angels of all types from craft shows, flip-flops from key west, snowmen of ALL varieties and of course the most special...babies first Christmases. Our tree topper that I LOVE is a gold and glass star from...Rite-Aid! No matter how your tree is decorated, fancy or simple, when you light it for the first time and step back...it's Magical...
