Five on Friday

We are relishing the last bits of summer here on the Jersey Shore.  It's been a mixed bag, but this upcoming weekend is supposed to be gorgeous...sunny and in the low 80's.  Orange Cream custard from Kohr's is a must!

Granted, we don't get out much anymore, but a breathalyzer machine in a bar?  Between that and the Grateful Dead cover band, I felt old(and judgmental)!

I've been trying to lose about 20 pounds.  When strategic posing doesn't cut it anymore, it's time to lay off the snacks and fattening coffee drinks...This is my typical soccer mom uniform...

We are combining our boys birthday and having one big party next weekend.  We've historically had Halloween-themed family parties.  This time we are throwing a "friend" party under the premise of a front yard tailgate.  All sports, all the time.  About 45 minutes into the party the video game truck is going to roll up!  They are going to be so excited!  There are a few girls coming too (yuck!), so am going to set up a craft table for them...

So despite the fact that it's not going to be a Halloween party, I've full-on decorated the house!  I will be sharing my Halloween decor next week...

It's fun...

PS ~ My eyes are so puffy from last nights game...there IS crying in baseball.  Thank you Captain...

5 on Friday

My husband will be competing in his 4th Polar Bear Plunge to benefit Special Olympics NJ tomorrow.

The plunge returns to Seaside Heights this year after relocating due to Hurricane Sandy.

He totally lucked out...the polar vortex has passed and the weather will be mostly sunny and 56 degrees.  Still wouldn't be warm enough for me; they should do it in July, then I'd participate.  It's a fun, fantastic fundraiser that will net over 1 Million dollars by the time everyone is dried off and warm.

After the plunge we shall eat, drink and be merry.  SO looking forward to a day of shenanigans!

My 5 for today are photos throughout the years that we've participated and cheered on our friends and colleagues.

With Love & Rememberance

On the Jersey Shore, we are mourning once again.  Not for a person, but for a place.  A piece of our childhoods, a piece of our children's childhood.

Your first carousel ride

That first Skee Ball game

Your first monster slice at Sawmill

Your first Kohr's Orange Creme

 Your first beer

We will rebuild, there is no doubt about that that.  Until then, we will take comfort in our memories.

Thanks for visiting

Pete & Elda's

There is a landmark on the Jersey Shore called Carmen's Pizza/Pete & Elda's Bar. Pete & Elda's for short. It is home to a legendary, paper-thin crusted pie. Toppings are discouraged, as it will weigh down the thin crust, but I am partial to sausage & peppers (they are sliced thin too). You shall NEVER order extra cheese.

I can honestly say this place is in my blood; my mom had it on March 11th, 1973 (just hours before I arrived). I think I may have figured out their secret ingredient(shredded provolone cheese ~ shhhh). Not that it matters, it's pretty hard to recreate. Oh, and the sauce...I'm not even going to go there, you'll have to try it and see!

Patrons who eat a XXL alone get a free T-shirt. The XXL slices folded on top of each other = about 3 slices of boardwalk pie, but not nearly as tasty!

These guys did not earn their T-shirts, but daddy did. I am just happy my picky eaters TRIED it at all!

If you ever find yourself down the Jersey Shore, try Pete & Elda's...trust ME, it's worth the wait and lack of parking spaces~

Freezin' for a Reason

2011 Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics New Jersey
These pics are from 2007 when we were just supporting our friend Johnny, who had to add some pizzazz to his plunge...
This year I am very proud of my husband for raising money and he'll be the one jumping into the icy Atlantic sans banana costume (although I may embellish a snuggie for him)
It's a fun day for an awesome cause...our plunge locale in Seaside Heights, NJ has already raised almost 820K. Disclaimer: We are NOT like the show, those people aren't even from here!
I personally am looking forward to catching up with some old friends and boardwalk pizza! I am very thankful for our friends, family and co-workers who donated toward Bills plunge and I am so proud of hubby, willing to brave the elements (partly cloudy and 43 degrees) for a great cause!
