One Room Challenge ~ Tween Room {Week Four}

Super productive week...finally getting things done.

With the help of our awesome neighbors Leo and Tom, we got the boys furniture switched up.  My husband had shoulder surgery last month and, while healing nicely, is not up for manual labor, so their help was vital.

Brennan was on the fence about getting the bunk beds, but now that they are installed, he loves it.  Bonus!

I assembled the Parsons desk from Kmart.  Easy assembly and better quality than I expected.  At around $60, I won't feel guilty about painting it in the future!

While not new, we purchased the blinds last year from Select Blinds.  They are the 2-inch designer basswoods in the Lumber finish.  You cannot beat their buy 2 or 3 and get one free + free shipping promotions.

We ripped up the old carpet and went to Lowe's to purchase the new.  We chose an in-stock (i.e. quicker installation, cheaper, etc...) Stainmaster textured carpet.  It's not exactly the sandy-colored Berber I was going for, but Collin loves it and that's what matters. 

I was really hoping to find some hardwoods under there, but alas...1978.

I wasn't kidding when I said this kid hit the closet jackpot in our house.  It's OK, he shares!

Some fun wall accessories for over his desk, that will get a paint job over the weekend.

Patiently wait for carpet installers

Polish Brass Bed and get ready for assembly

Sand and paint window seat and touch-up trim work

Wash and press new linens

Get accessories in order, plan placement and purchase last minute items

I have so much fun doing these challenges, and often share my progress on Instagram.  Some friends {I'll use that term loosely} and acquaintances find it silly, or so I've heard.  I feel bad for those without hobbies or passions.  I am certainly no Mario Buatta or Celerie Kemble or half as talented as most of the ORC participants, but I enjoy working on my home and this is a fun way to get it accomplished.

One Room Challenge ~ Tween Room {Week Three}

Talking window seats and lighting during this week 3 of the One Room Challenge.  It's an aspect of the room that I haven't concentrated enough on, though I should, as it's the feature that makes the room unique and charming.

I'm also searching for a modern, masculine (cheap) ceiling fixture for the room.  I have yet to hit the stores, but here's some eye candy in the meantime.

11th  hour update!! 

Awesome friends and neighbors helped us disassemble/move/reassemble and the furniture switcheroo took place!  So I got a little more accomplished than just Pinterest daydreaming...

Sun Room Refresher

Picture it.  Sun room off a house built in the the late 70's.  Dark brown paneling, beige indoor/outdoor carpet, drop ceiling and cloudy, aluminum jalousie windows.  Dark, musty and dreary...certainly not living up to the status of sun room.

My neighbor is a wonder with all of the projects he does around their home.  Custom tile, interior doors, closets, kitchen...the list goes on and on, but this is my favorite.

I wish I had a proper before photo.  New windows, wood-look tile flooring, recessed lighting, patio doors and paint, make this a swoon-worthy room.

I am completely jealous.

The flooring and paint (that they let their talented 8yo daughter choose) complement each other perfectly!

The ceiling is cedar that was hidden atop a dropped ceiling.  They opted to keep it exposed.

Such a stunner of a room!  They are creating a yard-crasher-esque patio over the next few weeks.  I will share that as well...

Easter baskets for the boys.  What is with the commercialism of this holiday? Stores advertising huge and abundant gifts for children. 

 I'm sorry, but can't we just keep it simple and sweet?  

Our dyed eggs.  The boys have named half of them (sigh) how long do I store them in fridge and then pass them on to their ultimate demise...

Our oldest gave up bacon for lent, so we included a dish just for him during brunch.

One Room Challenge ~ Tween Room {Week Two}

Well, hardly a productive week. Between Easter and the mother of all sinus infections, I've really only collected packages from the UPS guy. 

I have GOT to get moving on purchasing carpet (especially since I dropped a red solo cup of paint while cutting in...) and the furniture switch. 

But accessories are important too and those I've got! 

Bicycle pillow cover was on clearance at pottery barn and I used a cheap Walmart pillow to stuff in it (PB inserts are expensive). The tea-stained American flag is from eBay.

The lamp is from Kmart, as is the white parsons desk...

The two combined with shipping were $80. Kmarts rewards program is pretty lucrative, if you want to check it out. 

Another painting mishap. The window seat will be sanded and painted.

My linens came in and were from Pottery Barn and Macys.  My new motto is all linens and towels will be white (for the most part) and bleach-able. Because boys.

This is our office right now, I am in serious need of a yard sale. Anyone need a 4-foot rattan giraffe?

One of my inspiration pics.  I learned this week that the bed I inherited is not brass, but plated cast iron. *Little tip* if you acquire a brass bed or furniture...magnets will not stick to solid brass. 

So that's where I am at this week. Next to tackle, picking out and scheduling carpet and a ceiling fixture.
