Alcove got a light treatment, as my budget was shot.  Clearance frames from Michaels for the boys pics and plant/accessories from the house.  This area will receive additional treatment in the future.

The rug provides an amazing pop of color.

Family artwork.  I scrubbed the 1st canvas I did; I repainted a canvas with an ombre effect mirroring the colors from the boys paintings.  We added a canister "up" light under the ficus to illuminate the wall.  Photo can be seen at the end of this post, may be my favorite thing about the room!

S'more Cake {recipe swap} Leftover Halloween Candy

2 Recipes in one week!  This one followed up our awesome Sunday dinner.  Recipe for that can be found here.  It was the perfect pairing for a cold, crisp first day of daylight savings.  Quick and easy, as we had soccer, chores and were finishing the One Room Challenge.

Perfect for Halloween leftovers!

S’mores Cake

1/2 Cup butter, softened
3/4 Cup sugar
1 Egg
1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/3 Cups all-purpose flour
3/4 Cup graham cracker crumbs
1 Teaspoon baking powder
1/8 Teaspoon salt
4 Milk chocolate candy bars
(or enough 8-10 leftover Halloween snack size candy bars)
1 Cup marshmallow cream (aka Fluff)

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar til’ light and fluffy.  Beat in egg and vanilla.  Combine the flour, cracker crumbs (reserve a 1/2 cup for topping), baking powder and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture.

Press mixture into a 9-inch square baking pan.  Place candy bars over mixture (as shown) and then spread marshmallow cream over candy bars.  Crumble remaining graham cracker crumbs over top.

Bake at 350* for 25 minutes or until golden brown.  Cool, cut and enjoy!  Store in an airtight container.

Sunday Sauce {recipe swap} Ultimate Tomato Sauce w/ Meat

Sunday Sauce

1 Pound pork spareribs
1 Pound beef short ribs
1 Large yellow onion, finely diced
1 Large carrot, finely diced
2 Celery stalks, finely diced
2 Cloves of garlic, thinly sliced
1 Cup of white wine
1 Cup of chicken or beef broth
1 28oz. can of crushed tomatoes
1 15oz. can of tomato sauce, plain
1 6oz. can of tomato paste
Salt & Pepper
2 T Olive oil
Grated nutmeg
Fresh parsley, chopped

Heat 1 tablespoon of OO in a large heavy pot, until very hot.  Season your meat with salt and add to hot oil.  Brown the meat in batches until all is golden brown.  Remove from pot and set aside.

Add another tablespoon to the pot and add your vegetables and sliced garlic.  Cook, stirring often for about 5 minutes.  Add salt, pepper and a generous grating of nutmeg.  Add wine and cook for about 5 more minutes, letting the alcohol evaporate.

Return the meat to the pot and add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce and paste and the broth.  Bring to a simmer, and then reduce heat to low and cook for about 2 hours.  After 2 hours, remove meat.  When meat is cooled, separate meat from bone and remove gristle.  Return shredded meat to pot and stir.  Simmer for another hour, adding additional broth if it gets too thick.  Just before serving, add chopped parsley.  Enjoy!

Crockpot method:  This can also be done in the Crockpot.  After all of the initial browning of meat and vegetables; and the addition of sauces and liquids, transfer to your Crockpot.  Cook on low for 5 hours.

Fabulous way to sneak veggies to your kids.  Especially carrots; unless hidden, my kids won’t eat them.  They love this sauce.  This is a delicious sauce…really the only one you will ever need!

Weekend...

Started acquiring Christmas mantel 2013 decorations...I'm switching it up this year. Very excited!

2 more weeks of Saturday morning soccer....bittersweet.

Chilly am led to a 70+ degree day. Sweat for most of it, including at Costco and the jam-packed Christmas Tree Shoppes. It was mayhem in the Christmas aisles.

Made this freaking ridiculously awesome sauce today. Recipe on blog Monday...

Took an exploratory trip to La Z Boy. I miss our old couch (that we sold with our house). We bought cheap when we moved and are paying dearly now. La Z Boy really makes an amazing product, it's evident when you sit on it. May be worth the investment...

After Christmas!

Tomorrow will be more soccer, more cooking and getting my one room challenge room done, I am really falling behind...

Hope ya'll are having a nice weekend ~ thanks for visiting!
