Friday Funny{s}

It was "Happy Write a Thank You Note Day" this past Wednesday.  I had actually written one on Monday to a party hostess from the weekend before and included a couple of recipe cards for my homemade Irish Cream.  Handwritten cards & thank you's are so rare these days.  The younger (than me) generation doesn't seem to embrace it.  I get my boys to do thank-you's after birthday presents are received..although we dropped the ball this past year...due to the Stinkin' storm (Sandy).

So I was perusing stationery sites and happened upon The Blue Barnhouse Store.  Don't let the quaint name deceive you...a lot of their stock is naughty & fresh, but some things had me chuckling.

Why is this so funny...damn sandwich...

True that!

My favorite...I actually may order a couple of these. Southern Living's Facebook page used this image to promote the day.

I need to staple this one to forehead every time I go to a certain Target.

I do believe I've thought this once or twice...
Every. Single. Night.

Check out Blue Barnhouse here:
FYI: Not for little ones eyes!!

So, I was thinking that maybe the younger set wouldn't mind sending a note via snail mail once in awhile if they were as cheeky as these?

Have a fabulous weekend ~ Thanks for visiting!

Feeling Nostalgic...

For my old house, former town, for my cat, simpler times...

It was primitive, but it was bright and all mine.

Paint & cheap linoleum.  It's what you do when you have no budget. Sweet & mismatched.

Still my favorite color ever...Eddie Bauer Bungalow Gold.

The house was originally a summer-only beach bungalow.  Small, misshapen rooms, but it was charming and sweet.

My sweet girl Maggie...she loved the Ocean Gate house too...

The mudroom.  That beadboard was no nonsense, you can't replicate that original stuff.

I tried. In the bathroom.  Even finding vinyl wainscoting for the shower & bath enclosure.  It was a beautiful bathroom, wish I had gotten better photos.  The room I miss the most; the first one I ever did myself from top to bottom.

My porch.  Heaven on a breezy Saturday afternoon with a good book and a cocktail after getting a salty burn at the beach.

Property just small enough for this girl to perfect it.  I got compliments often on my yard and I busted my a** to keep it up.

Rental cottage in the rear of the property

Our beach.  This was our view around the corner every day.

I think I do one of these nostalgia posts once a year.  Can't help it, I just get sad for simpler times.  I love my life now, but I look back and appreciate the peace, solitude and physical accomplishment that drove me; that I don't seem to get enough of lately.

March has been, and will continue to be, a whirlwind; we literally have no free weekends or evenings for that matter, but I'm hoping that in April I can delve into some projects that will restore the sense of accomplishment to me.

Wishing you all a productive weekend!

Lordy, Lordy am I really 40?

No...because the cake says 29.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I was spoiled rotten by my family ~ I am so blessed!

Presented to me in the box below was my late mother-in-laws emerald earrings; reset in white gold and with screwbacks, as I was afraid to wear them til' now.  It's such a beautiful, sentimental gift.

A weekend at the Logan Inn in New Hope, PA.  Established in 1727.

I am so excited for a little getaway...

Hopefully we will be staying in Haunted Room 6.  Substantial haunting claims.

I say this like I am excited now...but if something really were to show itself, I'd be running out of there in nothing but my robe!

And one of these...

Along with a plethora of gift cards, cook books, shoes, handmade gifts and a mail box.  Yes, a new mailbox was #2 on my birthday list.

I really want to thank my family, friends and coworkers for making it a special day and softening the blow for me.  I am really one of "those" types...I already backed my birthday up by a year on Facebook.

Can't wait to blog about my paranormal adventure in April!

The Well-Stocked Family Medicine Cabinet

For Pain

Aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen - adult & pediatric doses

For Coughs & Colds

Decongestants, cough medicines, throat lozenges & cough drops – adult & pediatric doses.  Nasal aspirator bulb for the little ones.  DON’T forget the Vick’s vaporub!

For Allergies (seasonal and otherwise)

Antihistamines and eye drops.  Saline nasal sprays, as well, if that’s your thing.

For Tummy Troubles

Tums, Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta, Immodium, Pepto Bismal, Metamucil and possibly a stool softener.  For the children, I recommend keeping some Pedialyte in the pantry, in case of dehydration.

For Skin Issues

Calamine lotion and cortisone cream.  Also, can’t hurt to keep an aloe plant in your home for burns.

For Boo-Boos

Neosporin, band-aids (a lot – all shapes, sizes and characters), gauze and medical tape.  Possibly the squeeze and break ice packs, should you have room, otherwise keep the reusable type in your freezer.

Sunscreen, eyewash kit and antifungal cream.

Alcohol, peroxide, small scissors, tweezers, Vaseline, thermometer, cotton balls & swabs, magnifying glass and dosage cups & spoons.

Just a little PSA (public service announcement) from me to you.  We tend to reevaluate and restock our meds & supplies this time of year.  You never want to be out of something when you need it the most.

Homemade Irish Cream

Homemade Irish Cream

1 Cup Jameson’s Irish Whiskey
1 Cup of Light Cream
4 Eggs
1 Can of Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 Tsp. of Vanilla Extract
1 Tsp. Instant Coffee
1 Tbsp. Chocolate Syrup

Let’s sit in the fridge and chill for a day or two.  It’s better the longer it sits.  This will make 1 liter bottle. Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

Great for gift giving or as a digestif or pousse-cafe!
