eerie edibles

photo courtesy of Women's Day

Hubby & I are going to a costume party on Friday (yay~date nite!) and I really want to bring something festive to the hostess. I got these 2 ideas from Women's Day mag and I think I'll give it a whirl. Dip in a Coffin & Bloodshot Deviled Eyeballs. My signature offering for EVERY house party, barbecue, etc., is spinach dip in the typical pumpernickel bread bowl, so I think I can pull this off. The trick will be finding a skeleton or other accessories between now and then. Maybe some gummie worms coming out of the coffin....or is that just too gross?! I love making deviled eggs, too, just gotta find and chop up Pimientos.

In addition, I just found an easy~peasy tip from another follower of Southern Living Mag on facebook....freeze water in rubber/latex gloves, peel off glove once frozen and use frozen hands around fruit or veggie platters. I guess you could even float them in punch, depending on how clean (?) the glove is and if it's not one of the powdered ones. I think I'll give the hostess a hand (or two!!!)

~~~If successful, photos to follow~~~
Shopping justice!
Although I am not a fan of Blue...LOVE the chair in this display....
It was a pleasure to receive my Neiman Marcus at Home catalog (I keep it in the "dreams" pile) and see that they offer a garden seat very, very similar to mine. Fortunately mine was a Homegoods find last year for c o n s i d e r a b l y less than theirs and is EXACTLY the same. It's the little things in life....
Cuban coffee and my case for a new camera.....
While going through some old pictures this morning, I found some from our trip to Key West 2 years ago. It must have been the cuban coffee(yum), but I have never taken such beautiful pictures! Fast forward 2 years...my camera became a casualty on a wedding dance floor while trying to get the perfect blackmail shot of my husband. Since then we have been relying on our handy blackberries and the kindness of others...and their cameras. I think it is time to re-invest in a new camera, as we are missing countless shots of the kids, our home and beauties like these...
I am so enamored of the blogs I follow...these talented women and the beautiful photos of their homes, crafts and wish lists. Although I am new to this and hardly computer literate, mine just does not flow like I'd like it too...but, in time, I will be better able to capture the thoughts and images I'd like to...
In the meantime, I will continue to care for and nurture the two "angel" faces above!
Please stay tuned ;-)
Fall Project Update ~ a work in progress.....
At least I got the color on the wall! With a baby, it's not so easy to redo a room like I used to. I had to send Hubby and the boys on a day trip just to cut in around all of the room openings & windows and then get a sitter to roll the walls! It was worth it....we love the dark, cozy feeling of the room. The rest of the house is so bright & airy that I could afford a cave-like room. I used Chestnut by Eddie Bauer from Lowe's. It makes the PB rug pop and once I can accessorize (when the baby turns 5, 6, 7...?!) it's going to look like I see it in my head. This weekend (10/10/10) is a huge 1st & 6th family Birthday Party for the boys, so I am going to at least try and hang some "interim" curtains to tie it together a bit more for the party.
